Small Luxury Hotels of the World (SLH) welcomes three new hotels this month that demonstrate the kaleidoscope of luxury experiences that our independently-minded hotels offer. From a hotel hamlet in the French Alps, a back to nature experience in the jungles of Guatemala, to a classical European feel in the heart of Nanjing city. We also welcome the reopening of a long-time SLH favorite in central London, bringing a taste of Japan to Marble Arch.

The New Jingli Hotel, Nanjing, China

138 rooms from THB5,655 per night

Opened March 2019

Offering a taste of classical European-style luxury in a city renowned for its rich, historical heritage, The New Jingli Hotel is a boutique escape featuring a palatial lobby, Romanesque columns and Renaissance paintings. The classical feel continues into the rooms with pastel colors, dark wood accents and marble bathrooms alongside the latest technology and rainforest showers. When it comes to dining, guests can choose between international and local cuisine at the Jing Buffet with its open kitchen format or enjoy Nanjing delicacies in A One Kitchen, one of China’s most acclaimed fine-dining restaurants.

SLH Insider Tip: The hotel is full of Insta-worthy spots, right from the grand marble staircase, valuable European artworks acquired from international auction houses to the long marble walkway lit by golden chandeliers at the top level.

Le Refuge de la Traye, Meribel, France

8 rooms from THB15,443 per night for a standard room (Mazots start from THB5,4011 per night)

Opening December 2019

Refuge de la Traye in the French Alps will be reopening this winter following a complete renovation and expansion of the original hotel. This ‘hotel hamlet’ is set between lake and mountain and offers a collection of 8 eco-luxury rooms and suites that blend into the landscape and immerse guests in the natural setting. Choose between a cozy Savoyard alpine mazot offering a unique and cozy experience for up to 3 people, or reserve Chalet Edelweiss to enjoy an 80m2 family cottage with generous sofas, crackling fires, and views at every turn. The restaurant serves hearty Savoyard specialties while the spa offers restorative treatments including a Milk Bath, Hay Bed, Iyashi Dome Sauna, and Wellsystem water massage. In winter it is all about exploring the 3 Vallées with access to 166 ski lifts and 600km of world-class slopes. In summer, children can enjoy the farm to learn about the rural traditions of the mountains.

SLH Insider Tip: Mountain lovers can get married in the incredibly romantic Saint-Bernard’s Chapel, dedicated to the patron saint of mountain people and climbers.

Bolontiku Boutique Hotel & Spa, San Andres, Guatemala

30 rooms from THB9,319 per night

The Bolontiku Boutique Hotel & Spa integrates naturally into its jungle setting on the shores of the mystical Lake Peten Itza. Blending Mayan heritage with thoroughly modern luxury, suites offer a choice of garden, lake or panoramic views, all with private decks and ample opportunity for stargazing in the clear skies at night. Make the most of the tropical climate with indoor-outdoor seating at restaurant Mirador Itza which serves flavourful dishes with a Mayan twist. Here it’s all about relaxing and what better way to reconnect with nature than with a lake swim, a walk on the nature trail to see toucans, parrots, and monkeys or with a traditional Temazcal, the ancient Mayan take on a sauna.

SLH Insider Tip: Book a Mirador Suite to enjoy the stars from the comfort of an indoor jacuzzi with sky view.
